Coquimbo it was known as a base of pirates and corsairs, like Francis Drake. Now it is a important port surounded by hills and overlooked by the impressive Cruz del Milenio, a huge cross of concrete symbol of the city. For chileans Coquimbo is also a good place where to eat delicous seafood or rest in the extensive beaches that connects with the neighboring La Serena.

La Serena is a nice city with a center of buildings of colonial style, while the in seaside there is many new appartment buildings and hotels. The beaches of La Serena are one of the best of Chile and more than 10 miles long. A must is the visit to La Recova market, where you will find typical handicrafts of the region, like "palos de agua" (special musical instrument made of cactus wood) as well as good restaurants.

Towards the mountains is the Elqui Valley with the town of Vicuña, home of the Museum Gabriela Mistral (one of the two Literature Nobel prize winners that have Chile) and the bottlery Pisco Capel. In Coquimbo or La Serena sometimes there is fog in the morning, while in the Elqui Valley, the sun bright clearly; the skies are so clean that nearby there is Astronomic Observatories. During summertime is impressive to see the arid hills, while the valley is coloured by the green of the vineyards.

08.00-12.30 Departure from port of Coquimbo to La Serena and Elqui Valley.

Visit to Elqui Valley. Vicuña. Gabriela Mistral. Vineyards and bottlery of Pisco Capel, the famous chilean alcoholic drink.

1.30 PM La Serena/Coquimbo. Lunch (not included); excellent seafood in Coquimbo. City Tour of La Serena and Coquimbo. La Recova handicraft market. Climb the Cruz del Milenio, impressive monument resembling Corcovado, with the best panoramic view of Coquimbo/La Serena. If there is time available, visit to La Herradura beach.

5.00 PM Return to your Cruise. End of the services.
